Gaming minute: Eldritch Horror

Something different – Fantasy Flight Games is a staple among the genre board players, one I am not really a party too. Eldritch Horror is a game that pits you and posse against a worldwide evil that threatens our way of life. The horror is real, entangled in mystery, puzzles and unimaginable fright.

Eldritch Horror is a clue-based game requiring the player to gather clues and solving mysteries across the globe to uncover the devilish plot that threatened humanity. Seems simple enough but the clues are just that, clues not necessarily pieces to your overall success. It is how you read, play on and decipher the clues to solve the overall mystery.

This is not to say that they game is not winnable, it is. It is to say however that there are varying ending to the game based on your game play and those on your team. The character you are and the advantages and disadvantages that character gives you. Encounters during game play will take a toll on your character and if you are not careful he or she will be removed from the game, placing you on the sidelines.

A fun multi-player game is Eldritch Horror (does have a single player option). It’s a fun time killer on those days or nights you just want to relax with some friends. If board games are your thing and you enjoy some horrific world domination – a solid mystery requiring some thought and strategy, then take Eldritch Horror for a roll.

Indie Art Stop: Simon Sherry

Some pretty damn sweet illustrations for the CB discerning fan. I like the macabre of course but there is much to see here at Simon’s site. The art is well defined and presented. Professional and seasoned come to mind when clicking through the large library of art. 

One can imagine many a storyline to associated to the art herein - the three here are a few of my personal favorites, though there are many more, to many to politely share on my scant blog pages.

Many wonder about the minds of writer's who pen such nasty and detailed sins, Writer's who can dream up such disdain and agony imposed on the human condition. What about the artist whose visions spill out of their minds onto whatever media they chose to express themselves?

Certainly, one must question the sanity of those artist.

Spyder's ridiculously short movie review: RoboCop

Dude – if you enjoyed the original, you will like this one too. Much the same except the graphics are much-much better, as you might imagine.

Cruelty: Edward Lorn

Another short tale, at times these are my favorite tales to read. I found cruelty tightly written but a bit on the Twilight Zone side of tales. The main culprit in my opinion is tired, that said, it is well presented. There are certain traditional ‘horror’ characters whether based on ‘real-based’ or ‘animated’ that are age old in storytelling. Here you have one of those.

I was however impressed with the presentation. It was dark, sinister and quite horrific. The horror is genuine for the two protagonists who find themselves confronted with Edward’s vision of cruelty. The highway in which they find themselves stranded offers a short travel in despair.

The descriptive voice is nicely drawn and does well to keep the tale alive. For me I find it an easily recommended short tale for the avid horror fan. For those looking for something more, deeper or unique in the horror realm, I say, move along.

For the reader there is not much to be disappointed about or at awe over. Basically, Cruelty is entertaining and nicely written. For the writer, there is nothing much to report on.
