If you enjoy a little chuckle with your horror then this
might be the story for you. Don’t get me wrong; it is dark, decadent but also a
tad ‘funny’. The main character, “demonic” Dora is a hoot and a demon. This is
a prequel, I suppose to a series of books about the beloved Dora.
Well written, tight and yes a chuckle or giggle here and
there. Actually, truth be told Claire spins a rather funny story. For me, well,
not much of laughing with my horror that confessed it is hard for me to toss
this story aside. It is dark, sinister in many ways and very well designed. I
can see much talent spilled like blood (Claire’s) over the pages. She spins a
well-woven and dynamic tale.
Dora is drawn out well for who and what she is. If you miss
the point of her character then she will come off ridiculous and predictable.
If you draw yourself into her world and understand a touch more of what is
going on in the world around her you will see and appreciate her life.
Atmosphere is present as is some nice descriptive voice. I
don’t know what else to say here – it is a fun read but if you want horror then
perhaps just move along. If you want a little humor (perhaps allot) then take a
chance on the series.
