About Sinister Tidings

Here you will find a collage of likes and dislikes from RTS’ Spyder Collins. The primary focus is to bring fun and indie flashes of art and not so mainstream artists. There is nothing fancy, revealing, political or otherwise world shaping. Just things, introductions, reminiscing and fun in the world of literature, art and music, to which I hope you enjoy and find some pleasure in.

On the writer's iPod – Calling All Astronauts

If your muse is craving something fresh – with a steady and hypnotic beat that is deep with sometimes-dark vocals then Calling All Astronauts may be your cuppa.

As it is in most cases - Calling All Astronauts came across totally by accident. A simple follow on Twitter by @CAA_Official introduced me to the band to and a music loved fest ensued.

I find that many a (however you want to put it) unsigned, indie or undiscovered band make their way on to my iPod and Calling All Astronauts is no exception. Interesting name for a band, London based “electro-punk” trio (or so - yo guys need a drummer *ahem) is visually an odd mix – meaning no disrespect. JJ on guitars looks like my banker, David looks the part of a punk rocker and Croatian born, Kristi on bass looks like she can be anything she wants to be (stunning, in a word.)

So, post Twitter ‘add’ I curiously wandered to Sound Cloud and the burst of sound from my speakers - I was hooked. From there, I had to visit their home at Calling All Astronauts and ingested more details about the band – meanwhile the tracks played in the backdrop from Sound Cloud. Never before had I experienced a social media savvy band as this – FB (be sure to like them)  - brings a whole new world to their music and talents.

The playlist for Post Modern Conspiracy; looks like -

  • Demise Of Society
  • Eye Of God
  • Faith In Your Cause
  • Feel The Pain (Again)
  • Freaks
  • It Could Have Been Lust
  • Justice
  • Politicized - Ignorance Is Not An ...
  • Red Flag
  • Scenesters Vs The World
  • Simple Man
  • Someone Like You
  • What's So Good About?
  • Winter Of Discontent

I find the muse is much appreciative of tracks 3, 4, 9, 12 & 14 - they seem to get her in that mood for crafting dark fiction. Calling All Astronauts really provides a hypnotic undertone to sinister vocals that carry a message, which in itself is unusual in today’s “mainstream” music and something that has been missing for sometime.Truly fresh, intense and they deliver - through and through ... damn pleased over that simple "add."

Enjoy the visual – spin up your muse and dig in:
